Roguesail Raiders™ privacy
Last updated October 30, 2026
The short version. We collect as little as we can. There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no chat. We never sell your information. Players under 13 never show a name they typed: the game gives them a pirate name. Accounts you stop using are deleted after 30 days, and you can ask for yours to be deleted any time.
Who we are
Roguesail Raiders is a pirate game made by an independent developer in Washington State, USA. Questions or requests: privacy@roguesailraiders.com.
What we collect, and why
When you play online, the game makes an anonymous account for you. No email or phone number is asked for. The account holds:
- A random account number and a secret key. The key is kept on your device so the game knows it's you. Our server keeps only a scrambled copy of it.
- Your age group: "under 13" or "13 and over". We ask your year of birth once, but keep only the group, never the year.
- Your captain's name, if you're 13 or over: the name you type, shown to other players and on the leaderboards. Names are checked against a word filter, and other players can report a rude one. Your name is how you sign in on another device.
- A 4-digit PIN, if you're 13 or over and choose one: typed with your name, so only you can sail as that captain. Our server keeps only a scrambled copy of it, and a few wrong tries in a row pause signing in to that name for 15 minutes.
- Your game record: voyages, wins, sinkings, gold, doubloons, badges, and the ship decorations you've earned. It's used for your Captain's log and the leaderboards. If you govern a port (being tested), the town you build there: its buildings and its gold.
- Name reports you send or receive, so a reported name can be hidden.
- When you last played (the date and time), so an account nobody uses is deleted after 30 days. The game's owner can see it beside the leaderboards; other players can't.
- Which version of the game you last played, if you're 13 or over: "Web", or the iPhone or Android app and its build number, so we can tell which version a problem was seen on. The game's owner can see it; other players can't.
While you're in a voyage, the game server receives your moves and actions as you play, to run the game. It doesn't keep them afterwards, apart from adding to your game record.
Like any website or online game, our servers see your device's internet (IP) address to connect you. We use it only for that and to stop someone making lots of accounts at once; we don't store it with your account. Our hosting companies keep short-lived technical logs.
Practice mode (playing alone, coming soon) will stay on your device: nothing about that game is sent to us.
On your device the game keeps your secret key, your age group, your captain's name and your settings (sound, look, map), so they're there next time.
Players under 13
- Every player is asked their year of birth once. An answer under 13 can't be changed back later.
- Players under 13 never show a name they typed. Online they sail under a pirate name the game picks, like "Salty Finn", and on the leaderboards they appear as "A captain". We don't keep any name a child types.
- There's no chat of any kind: players can't send each other messages.
- There are no ads and no third-party tracking or analytics.
- For a player under 13 we keep only what's needed to run the game: the anonymous account number and secret key, the age group, and the game record.
- Parents: you can ask for your child's account to be deleted in the game (Captain's log, "Ask to delete my account"), or email privacy@roguesailraiders.com and we'll delete it. If you can, include the captain's pirate name and roughly when they last played.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it for advertising. It's only handled by the companies that run the game for us:
- Netlify hosts this website.
- Fly.io runs the game server and stores the accounts.
- Porkbun passes on emails sent to our address.
The game's fonts and code come from our own website, so your browser doesn't contact other companies while you play. We'd only hand information to anyone else if the law required it.
How long we keep it
- An anonymous account that isn't used for 30 days is deleted automatically, with its game record.
- You can ask for your account to be deleted any time: in the game (Captain's log, "Ask to delete my account"), or as our account deletion page explains. We delete the account, its game record and everything it holds within 30 days.
- Our server keeps daily backups for up to 5 days, so a deleted account can remain in a backup for up to 5 days before it's gone for good.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Your secret key and your PIN are stored only in scrambled form on our server, so even we can't read them.
Your choices
- See your game record in the Captain's log.
- Change your captain's name there (players 13 and over).
- Set a PIN for your name (type 4 digits under your name on the menu).
- Ask for your account to be deleted there, or by emailing us (how).
Changes
If we change what we collect, we'll update this page and its date first. If we ever add something that needs a parent's permission, we'll ask for it before it applies to a player under 13.
